  4. Day 2 - Afternoon (24 July 2025)
  5. Group Work
Completion requirements

This practical exercise is designed to engage participants in analyzing real-world data related to lead (Pb) contamination in spice mixtures, using excerpts from the Codex document CX/CF25/18/18. Participants will critically assess occurrence data from the GEMS/Food database, evaluate the analytical methods used, and consider the implications of proposed Maximum Levels (MLs) for Pb in spices (e.g., 1 ppm vs. 2 ppm). Through data extraction and simple exposure calculations based on consumption estimates, the exercise aims to illustrate the impact of regulatory decisions on consumer exposure, particularly for vulnerable populations such as children. This activity is intended to strengthen understanding of evidence-based risk management in the Codex context.
